Bucket List Experiences in Scotland
Ride the Jacobite Steam Train
The Fort William to Mallaig steam train crosses one of the most popular bridges in the world, the Glenfinnan Viaduct. This 84-mile trip is one of the most stunning routes in Scotland taking you through Scotland’s most incredible scenery.
The Glenfinnan Viaduct was made famous in the Harry Potter movies and is visited by many every year. You can either choose to take the train journey or park at the Glenfinnan Viaduct and snap a photo of the train steaming past there.
This specific train operates in the summer season from Fort William to Mallaig where tourists flock to photograph the steam train crossing the bridge. For the rest of the year, regular trains are available on this route.
You board the train at Fort William train station and ride it along the scenic route to Mallaig.
Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Edinburgh Tattoo
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival occurs once a year in Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh. If you are into comedy and live events, then this will be right up your street. During the month of August every year, comedians from all over the world gather and perform in Edinburgh to the thousands of tourists that come to the city for this event.
Bungee Jump at Highland Fling Bungee
One of our most thrilling adventures so far has been our bungee jump at Highland Fling Bungee. The feeling of standing on the edge of a ledge with your feet tied together looking out at the mountains ahead of you is like no other. We have tried both the bungee jump and the highland swing as well as their zip lining course and they are all fantastic.
Cairngorm reindeer
The Cairngorm Reindeer Centre is one of the most popular attractions in the Cairngorm National Park. Located just outside of Aviemore is the centre where you can purchase tickets to see the reindeer in the paddocks or tickets for the hill tour to see them out in the wild on the Cairngorm Mountains.
The Cairngorm Reindeer tours are held in Glenmore in the Cairngorm National Park. Reindeer were re-introduced to the Cairngorm Mountains in 1952, where they were once native after a number of causes had reduced them to extinction in the UK. The Cairngorms is the only sub-arctic habitat in the UK which is why they were brought here to be where they can thrive. Today there are over 150 reindeer in the herd and they have 10,000 acres upon the mountainsides to graze upon.
There are two options to see the reindeer, in the paddocks at the centre or on the hills on a guided hill tour. We would highly recommend, if you are able to, to go on the hill tour as you will have a much more unique experience.
